Climatology 2014 - The Science of Disinformation

Climatology has increasingly become disconnected from the real world since 1960.

Paleoclimatology has branched away into the past and has tried to develop the dubious art of tea-leaf reading into a science.

Paleoclimatology seeks to reconstruct past climates by examining records such as ice cores and tree rings (dendroclimatology).

Paleotempestology has branched away into the past and has tried to develop the dubious art of creating a storm in a tea cup into a science.

Paleotempestology uses these same records to help determine hurricane frequency over millennia.

Historical Climatology has branched away into the past and has tried to develop the dubious art of palm reading into a science.

Historical climatology is the study of climate as related to human history and thus focuses only on the last few thousand years.

Climate Modelling has branched away into the virtual world of computing and has tried to develop the dubious art of fortune telling into a science.

The study of contemporary climates incorporates meteorological data accumulated over many years, such as records of rainfall, temperature and atmospheric composition.

Knowledge of the atmosphere and its dynamics is also embodied in models, either statistical or mathematical, which help by integrating different observations and testing how they fit together.

Modeling is used for understanding past, present and potential future climates.

Contemporary Climatology has branched away into an imaginary world and has developed the dubious art of data tampering into a science.

The dubious art of data tampering has been well documented in the blogsphere.

Temperature Adjustments - The 1960s Pivot Point
Mid-1960′s US Pivot Point
NASA hides the decline in US temperatures by cooling temperatures prior to the mid-1960′s and warming temperatures after the mid-1960′s.

2009 Temperature Anomaly
Alright Already, what is this Bolivia Effect?

Notice that nice rosy red over the top of Bolivia?

Bolivia is that country near, but not on, the coast just about half way up the Pacific Ocean side.

It has a patch of high cold Andes Mountains where most of the population live.

One Small Problem with the anomaly map.

There has not been any thermometer data for Bolivia in GHCN since 1990.

None. Nada. Zip. Zilch. Nothing. Empty Set.

So just how can it be so Hot Hot Hot! in Bolivia if there is NO data from the last 20 years?

Easy. GIStemp “makes it up” from “nearby” thermometers up to 1200 km away.

So what is within 1200 km of Bolivia?

The beaches of Chile, Peru and the Amazon Jungle.

The Great Dying of Thermometers
GHCN – California on the beach, who needs snow
That blue line on the top is the Northern Temperate zone, from 30N to 50N.

In this posting we look at the impact of The Great Dying of Thermometers in America, with a specific focus on California.

Are 4 near-ocean locations enough to measure California?

Would they be warmer than the snowy mountains?

The dubious art of data tampering is deeply embedded in all mainstream climate datasets.

For example, Bergen did not stop experiencing weather in 1990.

Bergen Climate

Climate Science has tragically died and the phrase has been transformed into an oxymoron.

However, the Science of Disinformation is alive and kicking in the imagined world of Climatology.

The Science of Disinformation focuses upon Temperature Anomalies where real world weather patterns are compared to average weather patterns contained in the mainstream imagined world climate datasets.

NOAA European Temperature Anomaly Jan-Feb 2012

Temperature Anomaly maps are designed to remove the viewer from the real world because they do not show any real world temperatures.

Temperature Anomaly maps are designed to help the viewer forget that the Average Temperature for any day usually represents only two moments in time when the Average Temperature equals the actual measured temperature in that location.

Average Temperatures are like a stopped watched – they are correct twice a day and incorrect the rest of the time.

The viewer has to know the climate conditions that are generally applicable for a location before they can decide whether the displayed Temperature Anomaly is actually anomalous.

Madrid, for example, in the above diagram is shown to have a Temperature Anomaly of somewhere between -3 C and -5 C.

However, in Madrid the temperatures during January [on average over a thirty year period] vary over a range of 7.10 degrees C and by 8.30 degrees C during February.

Madrid Mean

Therefore, it is very misleading to suggest that a temperature [somewhere] between -3 C and -5 C below the usual mean temperature for Madrid [for any period] is anomalous.

Madrid Records

The records of temperatures in Madrid indicate that temperatures in January can vary by as much as 30 degrees C and by 31.1 degrees C in February.

Therefore, the reported Temperature Anomaly for Madrid [of somewhere between -3 C and -5 C] is just normal weather.

Normal temperatures vary between the Average High Temperature and the Average Low Temperature for any given location.

Moscow, for example, over the last 30 years has experienced normal daily temperatures in January and February that vary by 5 or 6 degrees C.

Moscow Mean

However, Moscow temperatures [over the last 130 years] in January have varied by 50.8 degrees [from +8.6 C to -42.2 C].

Moscow Records

It is important to remember that 30 year Average High Temperatures and 30 year Average Low Temperatures must be recalculated every year when they are being used to predict temperature boundaries for the coming year or analyse current weather paterns.

Therefore, the 30 year averages used in Climatology do not define a constant climate because [just like the weather] the 30 year averages are always [naturally] changing.

So I am rooting on some of this warmer weather to knock some of these anomalies back…
By the way, that’s how you get an average through swings of the weather…
Believe me, the least common thing is the average weather on any given day.
It is very rare when you have a so-called ‘normal day’.
It’s actually a misnomer calling something normal…
That is why when you see what is going on now, and I am going to allude to this at the end, these people are just lying to you about the weather.

2:34
It is very rare when the weather is right in the middle.
It is either one way or the other…
Well it doesn’t always swing to the complete extreme, it does swing.
