Following hot on the heels of the Papal Pap and the New and Improved Sixth Mass Extinction Pap the cut & paste press has been infected with another virulent virus of the vacuous kind: Practitioner Pap.

WASHINGTON – Some top international doctors and public health experts have issued an urgent prescription for a feverish planet Earth: Get off coal as soon as possible.

Substituting cleaner energy worldwide for coal will reduce air pollution and give Earth a better chance at avoiding dangerous climate change, recommended a global health commission organized by the prestigious British medical journal Lancet.

WASHINGTON – Some top international doctors and public health experts have issued an urgent prescription for a feverish planet Earth: Get off coal as soon as possible.

The Practitioner Pap suggests we have only “10 years to combat climate change” otherwise [guess what] there will be a “health catastrophe”.

But temperatures are currently falling and that is dangerous especially if access to affordable energy is eliminated by abandoning coal.

The Practitioner Pap also talks about “50 years’ worth of health advances”.

But these “health advances” aren’t associated with “medical advances” or “climate change”.

The big “health advances” in Britain and the USA are associated with:

1) Reducing nuclear fallout.

2) Reducing [dangerous] manufacturing and mining jobs.

3) Introducing Seat Belts

But then wouldn’t you prefer to talk about the weather if you were killing so many of your patients.

In 1999, Americans learned that 98,000 people were dying every year from preventable errors in hospitals.

That came from a widely touted analysis by the Institute of Medicine (IOM) called To Err Is Human.

As it turns out, those were the good old days.

According to a new study just out from the prestigious Journal of Patient Safety, four times as many people die from preventable medical errors than we thought, as many as 440,000 a year.

I wonder if the doctors involved would/will choose to be cared for by their own hospitals when they become elderly.
