Lies, Damn Lies and Climate Statistics

1959 was a good year for B Movies and flying skeletons.

House on Haunted Hill is a 1959 American campy supernatural horror film directed by William Castle. The film was written by Robb White and stars Vincent Price and Carol Ohmart. Price plays an eccentric millionaire, Frederick Loren, who, along with his wife Annabelle, has invited five people to the house for a “haunted house” party. Whoever stays in the house for one night will earn $10,000. As the night progresses, the guests are trapped within the house with an assortment of terrors.

The film is perhaps best known for a promotional gimmick used in the film’s original theatrical release called “Emergo.” In some theaters that showed the film, exhibitors rigged an elaborate pulley system near the theater screen which allowed a plastic skeleton to be flown over the audience during a corresponding scene late in the film. … Alfred Hitchcock took notice of the low-budget film’s performance at the box office and made his own low-budget horror film, which became the critically acclaimed hit Psycho (1960).

60 years later the B Movie revival delivered some memorable moments.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez raised plenty of laughs with her performance in The World Is Going To End In 12 Years.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) stated that the world will end in 12 years.

Greta Thunberg launched her impassioned “How dare You!” catchphrase in New York.

At the 2019 UN Climate Action Summit on 23 September 2019, Thunberg said to world leaders:

“This is all wrong.
I shouldn’t be up here.
I should be back in school on the other side of the ocean.

Yet you all come to us young people for hope?
How dare you!

You have stolen my dreams and my childhood with your empty words.
And yet I’m one of the lucky ones.

People are suffering.
People are dying.

Entire ecosystems are collapsing.
We are in the beginning of a mass extinction.
And all you can talk about is money and fairytales of eternal economic growth.
How dare you!”

Steve Keen gave his chilling “trust experts” soliloquy in Norway.

Steve Keen (1953) is an Australian economist and author.

He considers himself a post-Keynesian, criticising neoclassical economics as inconsistent, unscientific and empirically unsupported.

Ross Ashcroft brought the house down with his ironic “inept economists” intro.

It will come as no surprise that a recent poll indicated that economists are among the least-trusted professionals.

They’ve made blundering mistakes on everything from claiming financial crises can happen to not facing the most obvious recessions.

But all that pales into insignificance when inept economists get involved in modeling climate science.

A recession we can recover from, but the breakdown of our planet, we cannot.

Host Ross Ashcroft travels to Kakanomics – the leading economics festival in Norway – to talk with the renegade economist Professor Steve Keen to understand the scale of the damage that blinkered ideology has done to the future of our planet.

And there’s still a month to go before we hit 2020.

In war, you kill the other fellow’s captain. Discrediting him first makes your job easier, his life shorter, and improves your chance of victory. And so the Greta Cortez eschatology cult is upping the ante, calling for the evil captain’s murder. Time is passing. They know they have only 12 years to haunt the house on climate hill.

Keen finishes by talking about tipping points.
Tipping points were invented, ad hoc, as a mechanism for runaway global warming, which was invented ad hoc, to explain why Venus was the exact opposite from what was predicted…and to discredit Velikovsky.
The entire basis of the “climate crisis” is a failed prediction, the precise opposite of the scientific process.
We know nothing about Venus prior to the Venera probes and almost nothing since. Just a mass of assumptions based on ideology.

“Listen to the experts”, over the history of mankind the experts have been wrong about almost everything, a natural part of the learning process, you only truly learn from failure.

    Keen is a dangerous hypocrite.

”The Sun will turn into a red giant in approximately 6 billion years.“
The Hertzsprung–Russell diagram is akin to using a photograph from a football match as the basis for a match report…actually, with the Scottish national side this works.
    Scotland lose 4-0. 😄

The state of New York, USA, has an old law which prohibits the making of dire predictions. This unenforceable statute owes its origin to the 19th century Millerite Movement, which predicted the world would end on October 22, 1844. When the sun inconveniently rose the next morning, this date — which prompted large numbers of people to sell their worldly goods and await the apocalypse — became known as “the Great Disappointment.”
Those who haunt the house on Climate Hill seem to have forgotten that the key to making ominous forecasts is to avoid embarrassments by placing the fatal date far enough into the future. Ms. Ocasio-Cortez predicts the climate will collapse in 12 years, a silly prophecy she will live to regret. She is perhaps unaware that another Cortez — Hernán — was the beneficiary of such a mistake. In 1520 the other Cortez and his Spanish adventurers were battling the Aztec empire for control of central Mexico when a venerated native prognosticator issued a dire prediction — in two months the Spaniards would be wiped out by vengeful deities. Immediately, local allies abandoned Cortez, who retreated into a defensive position — for two months. When nothing happened, the Aztec gods were discredited, the allies returned, and Cortez won the war. A longer range prediction might have done him in.
Of course, the contemporary Cortez and others who make portentous forecasts are not really worried about being right tomorrow. Their goal is to scare people today and thus influence current events. Past mistakes, they know, are quickly forgotten. In the 1970s the climate haunters, who were still learning their supernatural craft, rang the alarm bell on “global cooling” and advancing glaciers. When the Earth failed to chill, they switched to “global warming” and retreating glaciers. Now they ominously use the safely ambiguous term “climate change” and grant themselves permission to kill captains. Needless to say, it’s not really fear of icebergs that drives the haunters, it’s a hunger for power, a burning desire to run the ship.

Our climatologists indulge in Cargo Cult science. They have a theory which cannot be falsified and create false data and climate models which support their extraordinary claims. This is simply just another version of Lysenkoism, and we all know how badly this ended up, both for the innocent public, and those who pushing the false theory upon them.

Unless they can change gravity, the mass of the atmosphere or the distance of Earth from the Sun – all the would-be ‘climate change fighters’ are going to be out of luck.

  8. Viewed sections of the video, particularly near the 30:00 mark. Will the data of the last hundred year tell something; or anything? I doubt it. Incidentally Anthony Watts had a good post on this point that I keep referring to :

Curiosity of what a Youtube offer might be got me here at near/from 08:30 to ~18:00 (in particular at 10:00). The speaker attributes that to Milankovitch cycles. No way. The abrupt changes and the extremes that are evident in both the graphs of the WUWT post, and the type of habitation at very high latitudes as per the second video point to other more high-impact changes. GF Dodwell must be turning in his grave.

    Back to the future…

A German public broadcaster has decided to make a choir of young girls sing a ‘very modern’ eco-friendly grandma-bashing song with a clear Greta Thunberg twist.

    What could possibly go wrong?

A minute and a half long footage demonstrated some three dozen young girls happily singing a remake of a German humorous song from the 1920s.

Its text was updated to match the trends of 2019 lambasting an imaginary ‘grandma’ for allegedly excessive fuel burn rate and undue taste for meat.

The song has a refrain calling the unfortunate grandma “an old environmental pig” and features such unchildish lines as “My grandma drove a range rover to a doctor and ran over two grandpas with a rollator.”

The song ends with children, suddenly as grave as a judge, speaking in the voice of the teen climate change speaker Greta Thunberg warning the grown-up that they “will not let you get away with this.”

‘My grandma is old environmental pig’: German broadcaster in hot water over brazen children’s song – – 28 Dec 2019

The prank song My grandma rides a motorcycle in the chicken coop is popular with children and adults alike and is sung in many different versions.

The Westdeutscher Rundfunk Köln (WDR) has recorded a new version with its children’s choir, which was posted online on December 27, 2019.

The video was deleted a short time later after criticism of the text (“My grandma is an old environmental pig …”).

However, the copies of the video are still available on YouTube.

In a WDR special broadcast, the director of the station, Tom Buhrow apologized “without ifs and buts” for the video and described it as an “error”, as did program director Jochen Rausch.
