Last week was different.
Last week I didn’t laugh with Jimmy Dore.
Last week I laughed at Jimmy Dore.
Last week Jimmy Dore declared the beaches in Florida should be shut down.
He didn’t provide any rationale for closing down the beaches.
But he did mention Florida has a Republican governor.
Should this be allowed to happen?
Here’s what you do.
You shut the beach down.
End of story.
That shouldn’t be allowed to happen.
There’s a Republican governor in Florida.

The comedy continued when “local officials” closed the Florida beaches.
Local officials in Florida towns and cities are taking it upon themselves to close beaches amid the coronavirus outbreak after Gov. Ron DeSantis refused to, even as spring breakers and others crowd the shores.
NBC News – Elisha Fieldstadt – 19 March 2020
All parks, beaches, and recreational facilities (whether publicly-owned or privately- owned) will be CLOSED.
Emergency Measures to be implemented by City of Miami Beach
Effective March 21, 2020, at 12:01 A.M.
These “local officials”:
1) Don’t want people to benefit from fresh air and sunshine at the beach.
Don’t live in the dark.
Don’t shut the sunshine out of your home.
Don’t exclude the fresh air.
A Report on an Epidemic of Influenza
in the City of Chicago in the Fall of 1918
John Dill Robertson
Department of Health – City of Chicago – 1918
Put simply, medics found that severely ill flu patients nursed outdoors recovered better than those treated indoors.
A combination of fresh air and sunlight seems to have prevented deaths among patients; and infections among medical staff.
There is scientific support for this.
Research shows that outdoor air is a natural disinfectant.
Fresh air can kill the flu virus and other harmful germs.
Equally, sunlight is germicidal and there is now evidence it can kill the flu virus.
Coronavirus and the Sun: a Lesson from the 1918 Influenza Pandemic
Medium.com – Richard Hobday – 10 March 2020
Under the direction of Colonel William H. Brooks of nearby Brookline, the Massachusetts National Guard erected a tent hospital on Corey Hill, completing the work in a single day. Two hundred sick sailors were admitted to the new emergency hospital the next day, September 10.

Sunburn is caused by UV radiation, either from the sun or from artificial sources, such as tanning lamps, welding arcs, or ultraviolet germicidal irradiation. It is a reaction of the body to direct DNA damage from UVB light.
2) Aren’t worried about overcrowded or “badly ventilated” housing.
The treatment at Camp Brooks Hospital took place outdoors, with “a maximum of sunshine and of fresh air day and night.”
The medical officer in charge, Major Thomas F. Harrington, had studied the history of his patients and found that the worst cases of pneumonia came from the parts of ships that were most badly ventilated.
In good weather, patients were taken out of their tents and put in the open.

3) Haven’t any idea about at risk areas.
Researchers Predict Potential Spread and Seasonality for COVID-19 Based on Climate Where Virus Appears to Thrive
University of Maryland School of Medicine
Deborah Kotz – 12 March 2020
To date, Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), caused by SARS-CoV-2, has established significant community spread in cities and regions along a narrow east west distribution roughly along the 30-50° N corridor at consistently similar weather patterns consisting of average temperatures of 5-11° C, combined with low specific (3-6 g/kg) and absolute humidity (4-7 g/m 3 ).

With an average daily temperature of 70.7 °F (21.5 °C), it is the warmest state in the U.S.
4) Haven’t any idea about at risk age groups.
5) Haven’t any idea about “previous medical conditions”.
More than 99% of Italy’s coronavirus fatalities were people who suffered from previous medical conditions, according to a study by the country’s national health authority.

In fact, these “local officials” just have no idea.
The data is overwhelming at this point that community-based spread and airborne transmission is not a threat.
We don’t have significant examples of spreading through restaurants or gyms.
When you consider the environment COVID-19 prefers, isolating every family in their home is a perfect situation for infection and transmission among other family members.
Evidence from South Korea and Singapore shows that it is completely possible and preferred to continue on with life while making accommodations that are data-driven, such as social distancing and regular temperature checks.

The curtain comes down on this comedy of errors with the realisation that the Land of The Free has become another Neurotic Narcissist Nation with more than it’s fair share of Left Wing Reactionaries.
