In 2016 I had some serious heart issues. They placed three bridges and an new aortic valve. Since then I regularly pass by the cardiology department of a big Academic Hospital here in Brussels for check-ups. I know well how it goes there. Already last year I was struck by the quantity of people in the two waitings rooms. It was never that busy there before. And not only people my age but also many young people. Yes, we have much more to do, said my cardiologist. What I said about the probable cause, he waved off. This year, mid-May, I tried to make an appointment. Normally, when I call, I have an appointment three or four weeks later. Now they said, we will send you a letter, it will probably be in September. When I talked about this with others, someone drew my attention on the statistics of the state organism here in Belgium coordinating the reimbursement of health costs by health insurances. In 2022 reimbursements for cardiology were 31% higher than the years before, for oncology even nearly 50% higher.
